Young Leaders Conference
HCC Southwest is hosting its Young Leaders Conference Saturday March 5, 2011 from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the West Loop Campus, located at 5601 West Loop South.
Houston native and former San Francisco 49er Tyrone Smith will serve as the keynote speaker. Smith is the President and co-founder of First and Goal Incorporated, a non-profit organization focused on equipping, enriching and empowering today’s youth with the essential life skills and support to follow their dreams. Growing up in the Third Ward area of Houston, Smith used sports as an outlet and later attended Willowridge High School. He then went on to play football for Baylor University and following his retirement from a four year career of playing professional football in June of 2000, Smith made a choice to travel a road less taken, and is now pursuing another lifelong ambition. For the conference, Smith will focus on the emphasis on leadership, preparation for the college experience and the importance of higher education.
Snacks and lunch will be provided and students are encouraged to bring their parents. Door prizes include iPods, backpacks and gift cards, for more information about the conference contact Martha Barrera at 713.718.7765
